The Delta Worms Story

The Delta Worms Story began with a simple idea: to rebuild soil from the ground up—literally.

Born out of East Contra Costa County’s rich agricultural history, Delta Worms started as a backyard experiment in composting kitchen scraps and garden waste. What began as a few trays of red wigglers turned into a full-fledged mission: transforming waste into living soil and reconnecting people with the biology beneath their feet.

We saw firsthand how worm castings—also known as vermicast—could turn dry, lifeless soil into something vibrant and fertile. And we realized that farmers, gardeners, and community members were looking for better ways to grow food, restore soil, and cut dependency on synthetic inputs.

That’s when Delta Worms took root.

The Delta Worms Story comes with a Mission

Our goal is to support a more regenerative, local, and biologically rich food system by providing:

• Premium worm castings produced right here in the Delta region
• Composting worms for homes, farms, and schools
• Education on soil health, waste reduction, and organic practices
• Partnerships with local market farms, vineyards, gardens, and educators

We believe that healthy soil builds healthy communities, and that even small practices—like composting with worms—can have a big impact.

Local Waste, Local Soil, Local Food

Delta Worms proudly uses locally sourced organic matter—farm waste, produce scraps, and leaves—to feed our worms. That waste turns into castings rich in microbial life, which we then return to local farms, gardens, and landscapes.

By keeping nutrients in the community, we’re closing the loop between food waste and food production.

The Delta Worms Story is Looking Ahead

We’re growing—literally and figuratively.

In 2026 and beyond, we plan to:

• Expand our worm herd and casting capacity
• Launch soil-building workshops for schools and farm networks
• Offer custom worm casting blends, including biochar mixes
• Partner with more East County farms to build resilient, regenerative food systems
